As
his latest show, 3 WORLDS, opens in Mumbai,
OWAIS HUSAIN talks about his INSPIRATIONS
“The thought that man is like a
powerless animal forever in search of
his own reflection that he only finds
in another or others, is the point of
departure for most of these works. Man
cannot find his reflection in a tree or
a car or a building. So he seeks others
of his own kind. Sometimes he chases a
shadow, mistaking it for his reflection,
or sometimes it’s just an emotion
that enters and exits his being. What
all this searching results in is his sense
of the distance between him and the other,
or his sanity and insanity, or, even,
the distances within himself. When I begin
to paint, the mind’s eye is closed
and I become the sponge that squeezes
out all these reflections, it has absorbed.
I am a painter and an accidental film-maker
who dreams of making music while aspiring
to be a poet. My continent has many rooms.
And I roll through my days and nights
between each room, speaking their different
languages, only to express my thoughts
in as many ways possible.”
